about us

welcome to pure roots wellness, where we invite you to journey back to the essence of our being with the wisdom and guidance of the elders, ancestors, and the elements.

whether you choose to stay in the little cottages on coco hill or join us for a transformative retreat, you will have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the land, savor our farm/ocean-to-table menu, and connect deeply with the indigenous folks of these lands in the ngöbe village of salt creek.

at the heart of your experience is jen - your dedicated host, chef, and experience curator. drawn to bastimento island by its vibrant energy, community, lush jungle, and pristine beaches, jen continues to be inspired to share her profound love for bastimento and its natural beauty with every guest.

your time with us will leave you with a renewed sense of being—rooted in gratitude, and reciprocity, ancient philosophies, and freshly grown foods. your time here will be one to speak of for years to come.

each moment at coco hill is crafted to help you return to your roots while fostering a deep connection with nature and the wisdom of those who have tended to this land for generations.

the island

isla bastimento is the largest of the islands in the archipielago of bocas del toro.  surrounded by the caribbean sea with its distinctive jamaican feel, isla bastimento is the perfect place to escape.

the people here are of west indian descent. they are warm and have a relaxed caribbean vibe.  loud music, laughter & gali-gali (a mix of spanish-english creole that is native to the island) can be heard as you walk around the town of old bank.

as you walk through lush tropical jungle, you'll find sloths lazily hanging from trees. you'll also venture to reach amazing beaches where you may also be graced with the sight of the brightly coloured (but poisonous) strawberry dart frog .

bastimento´s biggest draws are:

  • it´s uncrowded north-shore beaches like playa wizard, red frog beach, and playa segunda. each of these offers great surfing.

  • cayo crawl (one of the best snorkeling spots in the bocas archipelago)

  • learn the distinct indigenous traditions and culture of the ngöbe-buglé visiting their village quebrada de sal.

  • for an indiana jones-style adventure, hike nearby trails. take an adventurous ride in a dugout canoe, and visit the nivida bat cave or fly through the forest taking the sky zip-line canopy tour.
